About The Programme


The programme is in response to the management of the increase in the magnitude and frequency of natural and man-made disasters around the world. It is hoped that the programme will provide policy and decision-makers with the concepts, principles, policies, legal framework, and strategies on governance and the mainstreaming of Disaster and Risk Reduction into good development practices.
Mission and Philosophy:
The philosophy of the programme is to provide graduates with a holistic approach to the understanding of Disaster and Risk Management issues for sustainable development.
Objectives: The objective of the course is to:
i) provide participants with opportunities for improving the Vulnerability analysis, patterns and conceptual approaches to vulnerability across ecological and social dimensions/perspectives; and
ii) To enable Policy and application in disaster

General Admission Requirements

All candidates seeking for admission into all the Postgraduate Programmes of the Osun State University must possess a minimum of 5 credits, including English Language and four other relevant subjects, obtained at not more than two sittings, except as otherwise required. Candidates with ‘O’ Level Examination results obtained up till 2017 must present original copies of their certificates for screening as their Statements of Results and/or Result Slips are unacceptable. Submission of official academic transcript is a pre-requisite for admission.

A minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) degree of Osun State University or any other University recognized by Senate of UNIOSUN in Social Sciences, Sciences, Engineering, Social Medicine, Environmental Sciences, Town Planning, Agriculture,Forestry and Communication or Information Technology. In addition, candidates with HND (Upper redit) and at least three (3) years cognate experience in Environmental and Engineering programmes as well as other related disciplines from recognized institutions as approved by Senate of Osun State University may be considered. Graduates with Third Class degree with a Postgraduate Diploma from recognized Universities, or Third Class degree in the disciplines specified here with cognate three years’ experience may also be considered.
To be eligible for the award of the Professional Master in Disaster and Risk Management, a candidate must offer and pass 44 units of comprising 36 units of core courses, 4 units of electives and 4 units of Projects / Long Essay.
