The Department of Geography, Osun State University, Okuku Campus is one of the pioneer departments in the University. The focal point of the Department’s teaching and research responsibilities is on environmental management in Nigeria and the world at large.

(a)Mission 

The mission of the master programme is to produce graduates who are aware of the need for spatial, historical and ecological perspectives on the production, exchange and consumption of goods and services in society and well interdisciplinary teams the Nigeria needs for spatial and environmental management.

(b)Philosophy
The Philosophy of the programme of the department is to train qualified managers for more advanced research in related areas. Since resource management is an
issue of much interest to varied disciplines, the programme is designed to accommodate people of diverse background that may show interest in the programme. The this level will prepare someone for advanced research training in related areas at the second level.
(c) Objectives
The specific overall objectives of the programme are to:
i. promote scholarship, by producing students capable of undertaking resear all fields of environmental resource management;
ii. train candidates who will contribute to the growth and development of Nigeria through sustainable management of the environment;
iii. train the candidates in modern techniques of environmental analysis fo involvement in national and international assignment, and in sustainable development;
iv. produce high caliber researchers who will take up career in University andResearch Institutes.

General Admission Requirements

Candidates seeking for admission into all the programmes of the Osun State University must possess a minimum of 5 credits, including English Language and four other relevant subjects, obtained at not more than two sittings, except as otherwise required. Candidate with ‘O’ Level Examination results obtained up till 2010 must present original of their certificates for screening as their statements of results and/or result slips are unacceptable. Every candidate in regular employment must submit, with his/her application, a formal letter of release for postgraduate studies by his/her employer.. Environmental Management (MEM)
A minimum of Second Class (Lower Division) degree in Geography as Social Science, Applied and Physical Sciences, Technology or Education of Osun State University or any other university recognized by Senate of UNIOSUN. However, in exceptional cases, candidates with Third Class degree, but also with Postgraduate Diploma, or Third Class degree with cognate three years’ working experience may be considered under certain conditions as stipulated in Regulation 7(i) and 10(ii) of the Postgraduate Handbook. Candidates with HND (Upper Credit) as well as three years cognate working experience in related disciplines as stated above from a recognized institution may be admitted.
To be eligible for the award of Master Degree in Environmental Management, a candidate shall offer and pass a total of 34 Units comprising 24 units of Core Courses,6 units of lectives and 4 unite of Project / Long Essay. In addition each candidate’s thesis shall be examined orally in accordance with the Regulation Governing Postgraduate Programmes.
